WEEK NINE
THREE weeks to the end of the first part then 8 weeks to completion
C J Bayliss have started work on time on week one
The complete final works will take from 23rd January to 1st June
The work will be divided into three phases.
The First Two south end Phases will see the Foyer will be shut off to users for the nine weeks from 6th Feb to 5th April. The foyer space will be sealed off and is needed for the builders work space and as a store their equipment. Whilst this is going on the only way into the Main Hall will be though the School Room emergency exit doors off the patio.
The first south end phase will see the completion of the extension by finishing the two lavatories for the disabled, moving the heating boiler out of the bar, and painting the cooled room floor. Other contractors will then move the cooler form the old to the new, build the bar and furnish it with the equipment from the old bar.
The second south end phase will see the new first floor kitchen off the Main Hall constructed along with cutting the new doorway, replace the old door, remove a small wall by the bar, remove the glazed lobby, make good the foyer flag stone floor, and rebuild the lavatories to provide two beautiful new loos, and start replacing the heating system.
The Main Hall. The work on the Main Hall will be during the five weeks from 27th Feb to 30th March. This means that there can be no daytime activity in the Main Hall for this period. It should be possible to use the Main Hall in the evenings, although there will be no stage curtains and there will be evidence of building works, but the tools will be tidied away.
The Main Hall will also be closed completely for the week 13th to 17th February and for the week 19th Mar to 24th March to allow work to be done on the stage floor. The work on the Main Hall will include making the new kitchen and its wall to the Hall, refurbishing the north end windows, refurbishing the proscenium wall in front of the stage, fitting the heating, improving the stage floor, and decorating. Thus evening activities in the Main Hall will not be possible for half term week 13th Feb to 17th Feb and the week 19th Mar to 24th Mar.
Heating. The heating is back on in the extension. The heating will be off in the Barn from 27th Feb to 2nd March and possibly for periods over a much longer time to allow the installation and integration of the first floor and ground floor heating systems. We are replacing the old hot air system with a hot water system with radiators downstairs and forced convector heaters in the Main Hall. This should give a higher temperature which is more responsive to the different demands of meetings where people are sitting still and dances where there is energetic activity. We have not yet agreed the heating contract with engineers so I can’t give a definite date at the moment.
The Third north end Phase work on the ground floor will start on 9th April and go on for eight weeks to the 1st June.
This will see the modification of the kitchen, make part of the kitchen and the cool room and the office into a new Committee room, replace all the doors, rewire, re-light, and replace all the ceilings, make an office reception from the old bar, and complete the new heating system with radiators in all ground floor rooms.
This means that there can be no ground floor activities in the Meeting Room for the eight weeks 9th April to 1st June.
The END!
If everything goes to plan, Monday 3rd June will see the new Barn and extension functioning in all its new glory! Watch this space for an announcement of the grand opening. We would like to invite all regular users to come and to advertise their activities. We would also like to invite anyone to suggest who we shuld invite to cut the tape?
We are sorry if this causes some of you short term pain, even considerable inconvenience. We have done our best to minimise this, but to get this all done in the shortest time possible we do have to let the builder get on with the job.
